Product Review: Raised Vegan, Gluten-Free Pies
When was the last time you found a gluten-free frozen pie that was so good, you didn’t want to share it? That’s how we felt when we got our hands on the Non_GMO Project Verified pies from Raised Gluten Free. The crust, the filling, everything tastes so good, we wanted to keep them all to ourselves.
But here’s the thing: they’re also vegan, nut-free, and soy-free, which means we really should share them with allergen-challenged friends. So we came up with an idea: bake several pies at once and divvy up portions so there’s plenty for everyone!
And why not? These wonderfully allergen-friendly pies from two moms out of Humboldt County, California, come in a variety of flavors: We tried and loved Dutch apple pie, strawberry rhubarb pie, and berry peach pie for desserts, and chicken pot pie for dinner. But there are more flavors. They also come in small sizes (six-inch) and regular sizes (nine-inch).
If you want them to look extra alluring, you may want to brown the top after baking (a quick, watchful few moments under the broiler would do it), and expect a pretty soft base (i.e. it doesn’t really keep its structure when slicing). But honestly, who cares. They’re absolutely delicious.
