Krusteaz Gluten Free Double Chocolate Brownie Mix Product Review

Amen to these very dark and rich brownies. They’re chewy-cakey and ultramoist with shiny tops, and the inclusion of semisweet chocolate chips add a nice bite and extra texture. And there’s a bonus for anyone avoiding dairy: while the package may contain statement says, this mix could contain milk, the ingredients list does not, and the mix is made with oil rather than butter, which is less common in gluten free brownie mixes.

WHERE TO BUY: Amazon or well-stocked grocers nationwide

INGREDIENTS: Sugar, brown rice flour (rice flour, stabilized rice bran with germ), semi-sweet chocolate chips (sugar, unsweetened chocolate, cocoa butter, soy lecithin [emulsifier], vanilla extract), cocoa (processed with alkali), soybean oil. Less than 2% of: salt, baking soda, natural flavor.

CONTAINS STATEMENT: Soy; May contain milk and eggs.

CERTIFIED GLUTEN-FREE: Yes

OTHER HELPFUL INFO: To prepare the mix, you’ll need 1 egg, 1/3 cup of vegetable oil, and 1 (8-inch) square pan.

I heard a brownie baking tip from Alton Brown Food Network that takes these browniee to the next level. If you like a brownie that is fudge like on the inside and crispy on top, read on.

Halfway through the baking time remove brownies to a cooling rack for 15 minutes. Return to oven to continue baking. I cook for a total of 45 minutes using a 9 inch brownie pan.

Simply the best brownies ever. Thank you Alton.

I buy these. They take longer to bake than the box says but I find that to be the case with all GF recipes. I am not the biggest sweet baker person but when i really want a treat, GF brownies seem to clinch it.

My review: can’t compare to others as these are the first I’ve tried. Although the box warns you not to overbake I found I did need to bake a little longer than the box says, and my oven runs hot. Flavor is decent. I found it has a little bit of bitterness. Did NOT stick together when I tried to cut it. Perhaps baking it longer will help?
