Gluten-Free Mother’s Day Gifts

Like other spring holidays and spring birthdays in the year of the coronavirus, we’re not gathering around tables or feeding crowds of loved ones. But there are wonderful ways to treat and show love to the special moms in your life, namely through delicious, shipping- or porch-drop-off friendly recipes. So go ahead. Do gluten free Mother’s Day right, whether it’s for your bestie home schooling four kids, your friend or sister who is quarantining alone, your own mom who lives near or far, someone who has been like a mom to you, or yourself. Because moms definitely deserve it.

Coconut-Almond Granola with Candied Cocoa Nibs
Hands down, this is our favorite granola recipe. From Chef Michelle Polzine of San Francisco’s James Beard-nominated 20th Century Cafe, it’s known as “crack granola” to all who taste it, and it packs and ships well.  It’s totally adaptable to ingredients you have on hand, too; if you’ve got oats, some type of sweetener, and some type of oil, you’ve got granola. Pack it in a pretty container or a plastic food bag with a ribbon and it’s a wholesome and deliciously addictive gift for any special mom. Get the recipe here.

Gluten-Free Everything Muffins
This recipe has a lot of ingredients, but most of them can be adapted to what you have in the pantry or omitted. No raisins, pepitas or nuts? Skip them. No applesauce? Add more mashed banana, some yogurt, oil, or melted butter. Regardless, these moist and springy muffins are loaded with warm spices, goodness, and comfort and have just the right amount of sweetness. Drop a dozen of these healthy muffins on Mom’s doorstep. Bonus: they freeze well in a plastic storage bag with the air removed (if they last that long!). Get the recipe here.

The Best Chocolate Chip Cookies Ever, Period
There is a reason we gave them this name! Try them once, and you will be spoiled for life. Use only the best chocolate you can get your hands on or have in your pantry. Drop ’em or ship ’em. Either way the recipient will be grateful. Bonus: this recipe is kid-friendly, so little ones can help make it for their moms, aunts, or grandmoms. Get the recipe here.

Lopaus Point Waffles
Pretty, petite, and extremely tasty, these healthy, happy waffles make Mother’s Day breakfast or brunch a snap–just pop them into the toaster and you’re done! They come frozen in four delicious flavors (wild blueberry, banana flax, chocolate chip, and pumpkin spice) and are irresistible on their own or with a dab of butter, honey, or maple syrup and berries. Read our full review here. The minimum order is 4 packs for $59.80. Yes, it ain’t cheap, but these are next-level waffle goodness and it IS Mother’s Day! Plus you can get free ground shipping (or $9.95 off air) with code BESTMOM! Send some waffles to yourself or directly to Mom’s door here.

White Chocolate Bark with Pistachio, Rose, and Raspberry
Yes this “pretty-in-pink” delightfully feminine recipe has two exotic ingredients. But, if you plan ahead, you can probably get most of them online. But you can also substitute easily! The recipe itself is really a method for making white chocolate bark (easy-peasy), so you can substitute any type of chocolate or nuts to make an equally delicious, albeit different, sweet treat. Get the bark recipe here.

Berry Scones
When was the last time you had a great scone? Make extra of these beautiful GF scones with a DF variation because they’re so good, you’ll want some for yourself. Get the recipe here.

Raspberry Macarons with Rose Buttercream
Homemade macarons? YES! They’re easier to make than you think and they’re sooooo cute and tasty! The key to success is following the directions carefully and using a kitchen scale and gel-based food coloring (if you use food coloring at all) to make these delicate, crispy, airy cookies. They make an impressive, pretty gift. Get the recipe here.

Banana Bread with Pecans
One of the simplest recipes for banana bread, this one is also epic. It includes pecans, but you can sub walnuts or skip the nuts altogether. Get the recipe.
